Asthma and Coughing
Asthma is a disease of the lower airways with chronic inflammation of the bronchial wall. The mucous membranes swell, produce more mucus and the respiratory muscles contract. This leads to constrictions of the airways and breathing becomes difficult. Aside from the wheezing and shortness of breath, coughing, tightness in the chest or a general lack of energy could also be signs of asthma. The medical history, allergy and lung function tests aid in identifying possible allergic causes and triggers and in determining the severity of the asthma. It is important that patients understand their disease. Should an inhalation therapy with an inhaler be indicated, exact instructions are provided, since the most important factor of treatment is the correct use of the inhaler. If indicated, there is a close interdisciplinary cooperation with pneumologists.
