Hearing Aids, Baha and Middle Ear Implants
In cases of permanent hearing impairment, whether one or both ears are affected, an improvement can be achieved with conventional hearing aids. These are individually selected and fitted by audiologists based on one’s personal situation. It usually requires several weeks before the entire adaptation procedures are complete.
In Switzerland a hearing aid is in many cases partially financed by the IV or AHV, where a standardized evaluation and expert’s report by an otologist is required.
In various special hearing problems there are alternatives for improving one’s hearing situation. With bone anchored hearing aids, called Baha, deafness in one ear or hearing impairments due to conductivity problems can be dealt with. In specific cases where problems with conventional hearing aids are present, middle ear implants can be taken into consideration.
