Hardness of Hearing

A gradual decrease in hearing with communication difficulties, especially in a noisy environment is quite common among the elderly. Should there be increased communication difficulties, hearing impairments only in one ear, an acute hearing loss, or a pronounced decrease in hearing, an evaluation by a specialist is recommended.

Based on the patient’s history and with the help of an ear microscopic evaluation and a hearing test, an assessment of the hearing disturbance can be made in most cases.

Occasionally a conservative or surgical therapy is possible, usually an improvement can be achieved with a hearing aid.
